About the artist
Eva Lizette Mireles works primarily in soft pastel, a medium she loves for its simplicity and immediacy—the ability to place pure pigment directly onto paper and work it with her own hands.
Over the years, Eva has explored many different mediums, including acrylic, oil, watercolor, gouache, oil pastel, and soft pastel. While she enjoyed experimenting with each of them, something felt different when she began working seriously with soft pastels. She loved the tactile nature of the medium—the feeling of pigment beneath her fingertips and the control she could achieve by blending, layering, and shaping color directly on the surface.
Her love for art, however, began long before she discovered pastel.
Eva is a self-taught artist whose earliest inspiration came from her brother, Ruben Nunez. Growing up, she admired his many talents, but some of her strongest memories are simply of watching him paint. Seeing what he could create fascinated her and gave her an appreciation for art at an early age. She remembers wanting to someday become as good an artist as the brother she looked up to.
As she grew older, art remained part of her life, although quietly. She would draw here and there and occasionally pick up a brush to create a piece, but for many years she never pursued it seriously. The desire to create was always there—she simply had not yet found the medium that truly felt like her own.
That began to change in 2020, when Eva started experimenting with soft pastels. She quickly noticed a natural connection with the medium and became curious about how far she could take it. As she learned more, practiced different techniques, and eventually discovered the experience of working on sanded pastel paper, something clicked.
For the first time, creating did not simply feel like something she enjoyed doing occasionally. It felt like something she wanted to pursue.
Today, Eva continues to teach herself through practice, experimentation, and each new piece she creates. Her work reflects both the artist she is becoming and the childhood inspiration that first made her want to create.
What began with a little girl watching her brother paint has grown into a journey of her own—one built with pigment, paper, her hands, and a love for creating that finally found its medium.
